Independent Energy initially focused on the engineering, manufacturing, and marketing of electronic controls for the solar heating of domestic hot water and swimming pools. Since the late 1970s, the company has retained its position as a worldwide leader in solar controls.

In the early 1980s, Independent Energy launched the “Goldline” brand name via a product line that included a series of electronic temperature controls and alarms for the heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R) industries.

In 1998, the company name was officially changed to Goldline Controls, Inc. to reflect the company’s change in focus from solar energy to pools and spas. In 2004, the HVACR product offerings were discontinued so Goldline could further concentrate on the swimming pool and spa markets.

In 1994, the company began producing Aqua Rite™ electronic salt chlorinators for swimming pools. These chlorinators use a small amount of common table salt to automatically generate the total amount of chlorine required for pool water, up to 40,000 gallons. Goldline Controls has actively promoted the numerous benefits of the innovative technology to pool builders in the U.S. and overseas, and the company is widely renowned as the pioneer of electronic salt chlorination. The adoption of this technology has been so successful that approximately 70 percent of the new in-ground pools constructed in the U.S., in 2006, have electronic chlorine generators as the primary sanitizer.

In 2003, Goldline introduced the Aqua Logic™ series of automation controls. The product series provides all of the controls and automation features required for pools and spas, lighting, water features and heaters, combined with the built-in capability of an electronic salt chlorinator.

Hayward® Industries, Inc., acquired Goldline Controls in August 2004. The joining of Goldline and Hayward provides pool owners the first single source of the total pool management system, including pumps, filters, heaters, cleaners, lighting, electronic salt chlorination and pool and spa controls. Goldline Controls® continues to operate as an independent subsidiary of Hayward with a complete staff of senior managers and employees. The companies are synergizing their efforts in joint sales and marketing, and both sales forces are collaborating to maximize growth opportunities.

Goldline Controls is constructed on a foundation of entrepreneurial leadership and innovative, market-leading technology. The company is dedicated to the technological advancement of pool/spa automation and enhancing the total backyard experience. This is further exemplified by the innovative new line of products including the following: new controls like Pro Logic®, a full line of scalable, flexible Total Pool Management Controls and Aqua Pod™, a full function, programmable, waterproof remote with new table-top and wall-mount remotes; Aqua Rite™ Pro, a new professional-grade chlorination product; and a new range of ColorLogic™ LEDs.

Goldline Controls will continue to operate as an autonomous division of Hayward Industries. The company is aggressively investing through the expansion of their manufacturing operations, research and development as well as sales and customer service facilities in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, that were completed in January 2007.

Goldline Controls has been awarded numerous product and design patents in recognition of the company’s progressive and revolutionary products. All products are tested and approved by UL (US), C-UL (Canada), and NSF for commercial pool applications. Goldline is a member of the APSP (Association of Pool and Spa Professionals), formerly known as the NSPI.
